T20 Knockout Finals Day 2014

T20

BHCC travelled to the glorious setting of Worfield for the Shropshire Cricket League T20 Knockout Finals day.

After a fantastic breakfast put on by our brilliant sponsor Sparky at the Red Lion, Bomere Heath, BHCC had the unenviable task of taking on the home team and current leaders of the Shropshire County Premier League starting at 10.30.

After Worfield won the toss and elected to bat first, Tom Ellis bowled a phenomenal opening spell, seeing the back of all the dangerous Worfield top 4 ending up with 4 for 18. Oliver Plank (48 from 32 balls) held the Worfield innings together before picking out Ian Gillespie off the bowling of Jamie Dean. The returning Chris Stevens (2-28) and Henry Dawson (2-22) took care of the tail as Worfield were bowled out for 141.

Ian Gillespie (23) and Sam Bloor (21) got the BHCC chase off to a fast start before a mini collapse saw BHCC 58-4 chasing 142 to win. Llyr Thomas (39) and Henry Dawson (19) put on 36 for the 5th wicket before Dawson picked out Dan Plank off Will Weir. 2 balls later, BHCC were staring down the barrel of defeat as Andy Flann was adjudged LBW.

Worfield were dealt a blow with the economical Will Weir having to leave the field with a dislocated finger as Llyr Thomas and Chris Stevens pushed the BHCC total towards the winning line. However, when Thomas picked out professional Gagandeep Singh and Stevens gave Dan Plank the second catch of the innings, the game was once again in the balance as BHCC were 15 short with only 2 wickets remaining.

It was left to Todd Cornehls and Man of the Match Tom Ellis to try to get BHCC over the winning line as Ellis found the boundary to tie the scores. However, even though BHCC had technically already won the game due to losing less wickets and scoring more runs off the bat, the outright win was in the balance as Ellis missed a straight one from Brett Oliver. Number 11 Jamie Dean blocked out the remaining 3 balls of the over before scrambling a single to get BHCC over the winning line with only 5 balls and 1 wicket remaining.

With the win in the first game of the day, BHCC went forward to the final of the Shropshire Cricket League T20 knockout to face either Reman Services or St Georges who played their semi-final at 1.30pm.

Reman Services racked up 157 for 5 from their 20 overs vs St Georges with Phil Caudle (46) and Ed Ashlin (36) making the majority whilst Chris Miller (2-35) ended up with the best bowling figures for St Georges.

In reply, St Georges were always off the pace once South African star Tylor Trenoweth had been taking in the deep by Craig Heath off Garry Williams for 22. Chris Waldron (25) tried his best to get St Georges over the winning line but tight  bowling from Williams (2-22), Dominic Bradburne (2-22) and Jamie Wear (2-30) saw Reman Services come out the victors by 22 runs.

Therefore, BHCC would face old rivals Reman Services in the final of the Shropshire Cricket League T20 Knockout.

Batting first after winning the toss, Reman Services were indebted to Craig Heath (40 off 25 balls), Phil Caudle (32 off 24) and David Laird (23 off 16) in their total of 151 all out from 19 overs, failing to use their allotted overs. After being well set on 133 for 3, BHCC gave a fantastic bowling and fielding display to claw their way back into the game with Sam Bloor (3-15) and Henry Dawson (3-23) aided by a top fielding display from all but especially Chris Stevens (2 catches and a direct hit to run out the dangerous Dominic Bradburne).

Andy Flann and Sam Bloor got BHCC off to a steady start before Ian Gillespie and Tyler Siegert got the scoreboard ticking over as BHCC chased 152 for victory. However, when Siegert came down the track and missed one from Dominic Bradburne to be stumped, closely followed by the top scorer in the semi final Llyr Thomas picking out Phil Caudle on the boundary and Ian Gillespie being adjudged LBW, BHCC were again staring at defeat being 5 wickets down with only 61 on the board with half the overs gone.

Wickets continued to tumble as BHCC endeavoured to chase down 152 but ended up well off the pace bowled out for only 95 as Bradburne (2-31), Jamie Wear (2-13) and Man of the Match David Laird (3-22) the chief wicket takers for Reman Services as they ran out winners by 56 runs to retain the Shropshire Cricket League T20 Knockout trophy.

Congratulations to all who were involved in a great day for BHCC, thanks to Worfield for being a fantastic host and congratulations to Reman Services. Runners Up in the competition is a fantastic result for BHCC and the great win in the semi final over current Shropshire Premier League leaders Worfield will live long in the memory banks for anyone who was there.
