Round 20 Roundup

Round 20 of the 2012 season proved to be a rather unfruitful one for BHCC on the whole, with only 1 of the 3 sides unbeaten.

The 1st xi travelled to local rivals Reman Services playing them for the first time in 2012 as the return fixture was cancelled due to the wonderful summer weather! Inserted into bat after losing the toss, wickets fell continuously to leave the 1st xi all out for a mere 71 with only Sam Bloor (24), Chris Stevens (22) and Chris Edenborough (12) able to make it into double figures. Stand-in captain Dominic Bradburne proved to be almost unplayable snaring 4 for 5 from only 3.2 overs whilst there was also joy for Mark Tooze who took 4 for 43 from 15 straight-through overs.

With such a small total to defend early wickets would prove to be pivotal and Chris Stevens got off to a flying start trapping Ed Ashlin in front for 0 but that was the only wicket to fall in Reman’s reply. Matthew Richards knocked up 22 not out and Phil Caudle ended on 47 not out as Reman easily got to 72 for 1, leaving the 1st xi with a day to forget having played for 0 points gained.

The 2nd xi entertained Alberbury and gained a losing draw ending on around 110 after Alberbury had earlier made around 170. Apologies for the sketchy details which we will update as and when we get them.

The 3rd xi travelled to Newport to take on Harpers at the University College. Bowling first, the 3rd xi struggled to take wickets as Harpers amassed 217 for 6 declared, Mahendra Bomarreddy leading the way with 69 ably backed up by Dewan Ferdous with 48. Steve Rumble returned the best bowling figures with 3 for 54 whilst there was also some success for Fran Hick taking 2 for 10.

Martin James and Steve Rumble then set about the task of chasing down 212 for victory but were early victims of opener Sunil John, back in the shed for 0 and 1 respectively. Mark Smout top-scored with 44 but no other 3rd xi batsman really got going and by the time John came back to take the last wicket, the 3rd xi were all out for 126, John ending up with 4 for 28.
