Round 17 Roundup

Round 17 of the 2012 season saw the 1st xi entertain Wroxeter and the 2nd xi travel to Wellington. The 3rd xi had a free week with Much Wenlock 3rd xi having left the league division 5 earlier in the season.

After a nail-biting victory over Wroxeter earlier in the season, the 1st xi were looking to do the double over the opposition at the BCG. Batting first, the 1st xi made a total of 199 for 4 from their 50 overs with major contributions from Dave Langton (68), Ian Gillespie (42) and Sam Bloor (30). Tom Welti was the main pick of the opposition bowlers taking 2 for 53 from 15 tight overs.

Wroxeter found themselves in trouble at 36 for 3 before captain Nick Bevan and Ed Davies put on 56 for the 4th wicket to steady the chase. With Bevan out for 34, Davies continued on to top-score with 70 before being stumped by Ryan Davies off the bowling of Dave Langton. Still requiring 41 with 5 wickets remaining, it was left to Nathan Fern (29*) and the big-hitting Dave Street (29*) to get Wroxeter over the line with 15 balls remaining.

The 1st xi have played two high-quality close games with Wroxeter this season, both ending up in narrow away wins for each side. Both teams now sit in mid-table with 5 games remaining in the 2012 season.
