Round 12 Roundup

The second half of the 2012 season got underway with a bit of a damp squib with the 1st xi’s home tie vs Ludlow and the 2nd xi’s trip to Welshpool both washed out with no play possible at all.

The 3rd xi were the only team to get any sort of game in on the Sunday after captain Chris Scott had hastily rearranged the fixture vs Quayside to take place at Thomas Adams School in Wem.

Runs were always hard to come by for Quayside after being inserted in a 40 overs-per-side contest. Chris Hurst top-scored for the visitors with 33 before becoming one of Dave Langton’s 5 victims ably supported by Neil Williams with 27 before being run out by the skipper. Langton’s 5 for 17 from 13 tight overs proved pivotal in Quayside’s total of 90 for 4 from their overs.

The 3rd xi went out to bat knowing that only just over 2 runs per over were required for another victory and maintaing the unbeaten record they hold so dear. However, they found themselves in a big hole at 25 for 5 from 13 overs without any batsman getting into double figures. Chris Hurst was the main perpetrator again taking 3 for 15 whilst Jamie White ended up with 2 for 1 before the heavens opened once again with the match having to be abandoned.

The 3rd xi therefore maintain their unbeaten run in 2012 and collected 9 points for their endeavours with Quayside picking up 7. Well done to both teams and especially Chris Scott for getting a game on in less-than-ideal circumstances due to the weather.
