January’s Jubilations!

Well, may I wish you all a very Happy New Year. I sincerely hope that you came through the festive period relatively unscathed, apart from being a few pounds lighter ££££££!

We held a very successful Bavarian Night in the village hall during November. We had a real life Oompah band playing and lots of people dressed in lederhosen…….. We also had some new faces from within the village and I’m sure that everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We will be holding a Mexican night during this first quarter of this year. Mexican music by way of an authentic band, large brimmed hats and no doubt quite a lot of tequila… watch this space for dates and tickets.

The cricket clubs AGM took place in December and there is very little by way of changes to the makeup of the committee. I am pleased to be able to report that there has been NO increase to the annual subscription amount and we are probably one of the most competitively priced cricket clubs within the county. Chris Stevens remains as club captain and Paul Boland and Darren Nudds lead the 2nds and 3rds respectively.

Senior indoor net practice begins at Shrewsbury school in February. Please come along and join us. We cater for all levels and it’s a great way to shed a few pounds which may have been gained by the excesses of Christmas… We also have indoor junior training taking place and John Malpass will be running these sessions. We have high hopes that a number of our youngsters will play county cricket this summer in their respective age groups. Toby Jagger is on the county radar as is Katrina Hannah. If there are any parents that would like to be more involved, then we can arrange for the appropriate training to take place and undertake CRB checks to enable you to support our qualified coaches. This is even more important if we are to increase our junior numbers.

Battlefield 1403 are our club sponsors for the forthcoming season. Many thanks to Jeremy Jagger for their continued support. Please call into the Farm shop / Delicatessen, Butchers and Restaurant and see what fabulous produce they have to offer. You’ll get a very warm welcome from their courteous and knowledgeable staff.

Our two ladies rounders teams will be turning out when the nights become a little brighter. If you have the inclination to take part, then please do come along and have some fun… everyone is very welcome irrespective of age or ability…..

We have a new season starting in April and we will be facing some new challenges within the Premiership. It’s exciting times for us all and I sincerely hope that when summer arrives you will find a little time to come and visit the club. You will be most welcome. Keep an eye on the advertisement boards outside the club for notifications of upcoming events.

Take care

Andy McIlroy
