August Aspirations

August Aspirations

Here we are, mid August and we could not be in a better position. Over recent weeks the first team has dominated proceedings. We have played 15 matches and remain undefeated, winning 10 matches outright and winning draws in the other games. There have been some special moments, the highlight being Travis Keys 148 against Condover in an opening wicket partnership of 250. Matty Jones supporting Travis and carrying his bat for 78. This must be a record for the club!

Other important contributions have been that of bowler Chris Stevens who scored an invaluable 82 runs in a top of the table clash with Cound. This gave us a reasonable total to defend resulting in a very exciting win by just 5 runs. The athlete, Mike Barlow has been moving as swiftly as a new born gazelle, in his new fielding position of Cover (Mike is normally the wicket keeper!!!!!)

In the second team, a remarkable 5th wicket partnership of 86 between skipper Paul Bolland and Toby Jagger resulted in an excellent win. What makes this worthy of mention is that Toby is only 11 years of age and was able to apply himself with resolve in supporting Paul to reach the winning total. This is testimony to our youth policy and this season in particular has seen a number of juniors playing pivotal parts in games. Our facilities have also helped us to attract a number of new players and all are most welcome.

The third team, captained by Darren Nudds has gone from strength to strength and we now have good squad numbers to enable them to develop both the team and individuals to achieve greater results as we move towards the business end if the season.

The Severn Rounders team have won their league and congratulations must go the Elaine Randall and her ladies. A great achievement for your inaugural season at Bomere Heath. We look forward to next season and even more success. Becky Preece continues to run the ‘fun’ rounders team on a Thursday evening so please come along and a have a run out. It’s a very sociable side and after their exercise, a well deserved drink at the bar is required!!!!!!!
I am pleased to announce that we have managed to retain the services of Australian Travis Keys for next season. Travis is an integral part of the club, and with his return, we can start to look NOW to attract more players for what hopefully will be a challenging time in the Premiership. There will be a leaving party for Travis on Saturday 23rd September at the club.

Lastly, I must comment upon the ‘BUZZ’ that abounds the club at the moment. With winning ways and playing the game in a good spirit, it’s amazing how much fun is being had by everyone. I would encourage you to come and pay us a visit, no matter what your playing ability, we can accommodate everybody. Juniors are always welcome and it is a safe environment for them to practice their skills.

The rounders set up is first class so don’t be shy, come and join us…. For those who are keen crown green bowlers………watch this space!!!!
Enjoy your summer and we look forward to welcoming you to the Cricket Club.
