2nd xi vs Willey

The 2nd xi headed to Willey looking to avoid any disasters with the weather and stay at the top of the Shropshire Cricket League Reserve Division 2.

With a dodgy weather forecast and even dodgier black clouds looming, the 2nd xi were invited to bat first and were shot out for just 86, with extras (28) the top scorer followed by Neil Proctor (16) and Ricky Davies (15). Good bowling from Matthew Pritchard (3-22), Matt Smout (4-43), Shane Hatton (2-15) and especially Graham Barker (5.5-4-1-2) kept the pressure on BHCC despite the constant interruptions for rain.

After another rain delay and waiting for the bowlers run-ups to be dry enough, Willey were left with 28 overs to get to their target of 87 but fell agonisingly short on 74-5. Tony Rowlands (30) was the pick of the batsmen while good bowling from Andy Oliver (2-25) and Ricky Davies (2-14) kept the runs at a premium, allowing BHCC to draw the game, which has subsequently been classed as an abandoned match due to current playing conditions.

Therefore, the 2nd xi escaped a tricky situation with 7 points. However, with Welshpool’s win over Knockin, the gap is now just 26 points at the top of the table with just 4 games to go. It’s getting tense!
