2nd xi vs Condover

The 2nd xi headed to Condover looking to consolidate their position at the top of the Shropshire Cricket League Reserve Division 2.

After being asked to bat first, Condover progressed to 173 for 6 from their 45 overs with contributions from Jonathan Breakell (45), Dale Hardgrave (46*), Charlie Rogers (24) and Mike Rogers (24) in a good batting display that petered out towards the end of the innings. Paul Bolland (2-39) was the pick of the 2nd xi’s attack whilst there was some tight bowling from Tom Dermody (1-31 off 13 overs).

The 2nd xi found themselves in a bit of a hole losing 3 wickets with not many on the board before Paul Bolland and Neil Proctor came together to create the game winning partnership. Proctor fell 1 short of his half-century (jug avoidance) which triggered another batting collapse as the next 4 batsmen could only muster 1 between them. Sam Smout made a vital 12 at number 10 before being caught meaning Henry Preece had to face the bowling with the 2nd xi 9 down still needing a few to get over the line with only 2 overs to go.

Preece held out, leaving Bolland to hit the winning runs and take the man of the match plaudits with 72 not out as the 2nd xi crept across the winning line by 1 wicket with 1 over to spare. Jonathan Breakell (4-37) was the pick of the home attack in a great personal effort to add to his 45 earlier whilst there were also wickets for Freddie Fielding (2-21) and Charlie Rogers (2-38).

The 20-point win proved vital for the 2nd xi as Welshpool, who started the day just 9 points behind in 2nd place of the Shropshire Cricket League Reserve Division 2, lost in a very close game to Cae Glas. The 2nd xi now have a 23 point cushion at the top of the table, but can not rest on their laurels with the vital home game to their closest rivals coming this Saturday.
