1st xi vs Worfield

The 1st xi travelled south to take on Worfield at Davenport Park hoping to kick-start the 2014 season.

After asking Worfield to bat first, Chris Stevens carried on his great form to storm through the Worfield top order on his way to taking 6 for 35. Teaming up with Todd Cornehls (2 for 30), Worfield were in definite trouble at 98 for 8. However, Gareth Lanchbury (48), Brett Oliver (15*) and Jez Thomas (14*) took Worfield up to a very respectable 182 for 9 from their 50 overs. Opener Tom Matthews (37) and Oliver Plank (24) had earlier scored well before becoming 2 of Stevens’ victims.

The 1st xi lost their openers cheaply and were indebted to new captain Chris Edenborough (58) in a return to form to take his side up to 80 for 4. However, only Sam Bloor (17) and Australian Tyler Siegert (19) were the only further batsman to really trouble the scorers as the 1st xi’s batting woes continued to rear their ugly head as they were shot out for 153, giving Worfield the win by 29 runs. Gagandeep Singh (4 for 30) was the pick of the home side’s attack.

Onwards and upwards to next week!
